Described by readers as 'the most haunting book (they've) ever read', The Silent Children brings together characters who harbour secrets they'􏰁d rather forget. But there's one secret in particular that will forever shadow them, culminating in a shocking twist.

'As a child I always loved everything about ghosts and the supernatural. I always wanted to write a ghost story that would stay with you after you turn the final page,' says author Amna. 'I believe that ghosts arise for a reason – and here I used the idea of a hidden crime to frame the supernatural elements.'

Amna embarked on two Faber Academy writing courses, including the six month Faber Academy Writing a Novel course. The Silent Children is her debut novel. ‘I hope the book will appeal to readers who like a good mystery, who like supernatural elements and like the weaving together of past and present,’ adds Amna.

The Silent Children tells 2 stories running side by side – Vienna, 1938: Something’s amiss at the home of young Annabel Albrecht. First, her favourite maid Eva disappears, then her friend Oskar. Worse is to come – her brother is murdered and her mother is taken away, leaving Annabel to fend for herself. Almost 70 years later, Annabel’s son Max uncovers his mother’s long-buried pasts, and unlocks the secrets preserved by Annabel’s missing friends. But as Max is to discover, some children can never be completely silenced.
