To mark 3 years since his daughter, Millie, was diagnosed with cancer, Marco Previero recounts her extraordinary battle in a moving diary.

Three years ago, seven-year-old Millie Previero and her family were violently thrown into the most dreaded abyss when they discovered she had a form of malignant brain tumour.

“To keep my sanity, right at the very beginning, I started writing what was happening to us as family, what was happening to Millie as my daughter,” author Marco Previero explains. “In doing so, I wanted to preserve the detail, so easily forgotten, of what she had to go through, and the courage with which she did it, so that she could read her story at an age when she would understand how extraordinary she had been during that time.”

Described as ‘unequivocally raw and honest... profound, gritty and at times even funny,’ Dear Millie is the intimate tale of Millie’s illness, told in three parts – Hell, Purgatory and Heaven. It begins on the morning of 5th April 2013 when she wakes up complaining of ‘fuzziness’ in her eyes. This very quickly turns to loss of vision, and over the course of the six months that follow her cancer diagnosis she undergoes three brain operations, four cycles of aggressive chemotherapy and thirty sessions of Proton Beam Therapy, one of the latest radiotherapy treatments, 4,000 miles away in Oklahoma City because the UK does not yet have a centre where this latest technology is available.

“We were given a second chance and we are fully committed to making the most of it, to support Millie and to continue to raise awareness and funds for paediatric brain cancer research,” explains Marco. Dear Millie is an extraordinary tale of suffering, destruction, resilience and, ultimately, rebirth. Marco Previero pledges: “This book has also been written in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity, and I will be donating all my royalties to this charity in order to contribute to the ongoing effort to help other children, now and in the future, in fighting this most deadly of afflictions and its devastating consequences.”
