After experiencing the breakdown of his marriage and loss of his father jsut two weeks later, Paul J. Elliott, of Eastwood, Nottinghamshire, decided to finally turn his ideas into a story. "Writing was a cathartic experience for me," explains Paul.

"The idea for my book Gnomes was originally the product of two vivid imaginations," explains Paul, who credits authors such as Tom Sharpe and Douglas Adams amongst his inspirations. "In 2012, after the break-up of my marriage and the death of my father a few weeks later, I decided to turn the ideas into a story. The day after my father's funeral, I began the first draft. Probably not the ideal time to start a comedy novel, but it certainly proved cathartic!"

Paul's story details the wonderings of gnomes. Friendly, harmless little beings who hide away in remote places, entertaining themselves by fishing for no fish while perched on toadstools? Not this lot! The everyday lives of James and Alison Allison become a theatre of chaos and carnage when a group of small, but highly evolved creatures invades their home.

Gnomes is inspired by a break-up but it aims to entertain,” observes Elliott. “I just hope that the world is ready for it!”
