Fred Jeffries has defied his diagnosis with his publication of Love is... Small Talk, his second collection of humorous cartoons

Love is… Small Talk follows Fred Jefferies’ first book, Love Bites, which was published by the Book Guild in 2015. In 2001 Fred was registered blind, and as a result of this he could not continue his passion for writing and illustrating.

However, fifteen years on from his diagnosis, he found the courage to try again and has produced this second collection of humorous observations on love in all its guises. His wife, Nora, says he draws with his heart plus the help of the angels – a fantastic combination!

The book contains full-colour illustrations on every page, all by Fred – who is a member of the Cartoonist Club of Great Britain and the Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation.

Fred Jefferies was born in Paddington in 1929, and grew up in relative poverty until, when evacuated at the age of 11, he discovered a talent for drawing. Following this a kindly sponsor in the form of a wealthy Major who paid for art lessons. Fred then attended St Martin’s College of Art and has been a freelance cartoonist ever since. He is a member of the Cartoonist Club of Great Britain and the Professional Cartoonist’s Organisation and lives in Tring, Hertfordshire. Review copies of Love is... Small Talk are now available on request.
