THE WEATHER NETWORK APP NOW AVAILABLE ON ALL MAJOR CONNECTED TV MODELS
Pelmorex Media brings weather to next-gen TVs and Blu-Ray Players
Oakville, Ontario, February 11, 2014 – Pelmorex Media Inc., parent company of The Weather Network and MétéoMédia, announced that its weather application is now available on several Connected TV models including Samsung, LG and Panasonic among others. Offering similar features as its popular mobile and web apps, The Weather Network Connected TV app provides users with on-demand access to detailed and personalized weather forecasts and content.
“As Canada’s leading multi-platform weather information service, it’s a priority for us to be available on the newest technologies so consumers always have access to the information they need to plan their day,” said Naomi Lipowski, Director of iTV and TV Emerging Technologies, Pelmorex Media Inc. “We’re proud to be at the forefront of this fast-moving category and we’re committed to delivering a great consumer experience as television viewing habits continue to evolve.”
Leveraging past success with iTV apps, strong industry relationships and consumer insights, The Weather Network team created a simple and efficient user interface rich in graphics and designed the app for a 10-foot TV viewing experience. The Weather Network Connected TV app allows for rapid discovery of content and is easy to use.
With a click of the television remote, users have access to key weather data such as current conditions, hourly or 14-day forecasts and maps for their location to easily track storms. The experience can be personalized by adding up to 10 cities. Active weather alerts and warnings appear prominently in the app to provide users with quick access to the details.
Available features include:
- Video: Global Force of Nature video series showcasing images of the latest active and major weather events happening around the world.
- Personalization: Add up to 10 locations, choose preferred language (English, French or Spanish) and unit of measurement.
- User submitted content: Scroll through user’s photos from across Canada and around the world.
- Enhanced weather content: PointCast technology provides weather information for as close as one kilometer; ski conditions, hourly forecasts, weather alerts/warnings, a quick poll and maps.
First introduced in August 2013 for Samsung Smart TVs, The Weather Network Connected TV app has already achieved high engagement with 50 per cent of visitors spending between one to five minutes interacting with The Weather Network app.
The Weather Network Connected TV app is now available on select models of the following Smart TV/Blu-Ray manufacturers: Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Opera TV (Sony), Net TV (Philips/Sharp) and Google TV.
The Weather Network also offers weather apps for mobile and tablet devices such as Android, Blackberry and Windows, PC and Mac computers, as well as interactive TV apps.
