“Now Turning 70”, Tom Bissinger's masterpiece, available from ebook publisher TheWriteDeal
In this unique work just released by the New York ebook publisher and distributor TheWriteDeal, Tom Bissinger turns a clear honest eye on his transition to his seventieth year. "You sing because if you don't, you die, at least a little,” he writes in one of the autobiographical musings in this brilliant work, a non-narrative woven around philosophical diary entries from four distinct periods covering some 40 years.
Bissinger claims to have nothing to confess in this stream of big and small events. He sees himself only as performing an assigned and assumed role, an extra on a crowded stage. And yet little escapes his humorous, at times rueful, at times hopeful, examinations of family dysfunctions, books and movies, sex and death and the euphoric buddings and slow falterings of nature.
Bissinger is the author of "Da Capo- Selected Writings 1967-2004", a collection of stories, plays, poetry and journal entires. Cool Fire, his book short stories, and two poetry books, "Thoughts in the Moment" and "Just What Is". He has written and directed plays Off-Broadway and at theaters across the United States and Europe. His last play, Descartes' Blues, debuted at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival. His current production, The Bus, written in association with Dance Wareham, is being performed on a forty foot Golden Eagle bus.
Bissinger lives on a farm outside Philadelphia where, in addition to writing, he has studied with Native American mystic Beautiful Painted Arrow (born Joseph Rael). From this association, Bissinger and his wife Kristen have participated and led ceremonial dances and sweat lodges for over twenty-five years.
