After 5 days and 733 km along the Tasmania coastline and mountain peaks the Adventure Race World Championships are completed with the winner…….Thule Adventure Team – number 1 in the world!

The competition consisted of kayaking, running; MTB biking, challenges in caves, rafting etc. day and night, with just one mandatory stop of 6 hours.

The competition started Wednesday 2nd November, local time, and was exciting all the way trough over the weekend. The last kayaking leg (64 km) was the part of the track that finally made the difference between the winners and number two. According to the regulations this section of the competition could not be done during the night which made it crucial to arrive to the river bank in the right time making sure not being stopped for several hours waiting for the day to break. The Thule Adventure Team was there right in the ideal time, not giving the competition the chance to slip by.

-       One of the very toughest races I have ever experienced, says Martin Flinta, team captain of Thule Adventure Team, shortly after the finish. It was a battle of the knife in principle all the way into the end. Although Team Seagate's penalty time gave us a small extra bonus at the end, it was not until a few kilometres from the finish we could feel sure of winning concludes Martin.

The trekking part in the Tasmanian canyons (in cold and rainy weather) during the night was one of the toughest parts of the competition and all the top teams said it was one of the worst things they had ever experienced. During this section of tracking Thule Adventure Teams kept going strong and under Wednesday evening they were on the second place in the competition.

On the Sunday the first place of the race was shared between Team Segate and Thule Adventure Team. Team Segate on their side had a 4 hours penalty, meaning that they had to stay put on the second last control for 4 hours. This meaning that, in order to secure that they won, they need to be over 4 hours ahead Thule Adventure Team when reaching the goal.

Winning the Adventure Racing World Championships 2011 marks the end of a fantastic racing season for the Thule Adventure Team. First place in Idaho Expedition Adventure Race (US), Discovery AIM Challenge (Sweden), and French Le Grand Raids just to name the three main victories in the second half of this year.
