Tieto investing in secure cloud and data centre services

Digitalization gains speed and the amount of data transferred and stored is becoming increasingly immense. Tieto is investing to support growth and increased demand for secure data centre and cloud environments in the Nordics, including starting operations in a Norwegian data centre. The aim is to drive modernization of IT infrastructure and applications and to help customers capture new business opportunities in the data-driven world.

Due to a massive boost in data transfer volumes and sharper regulation like The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) within the IT security area, companies and organizations are increasingly keen on knowing where and how their data is stored.

To be able to meet increased demand for local services, Tieto has signed an agreement with data centre operator Green Mountain to offer local, secure and high-quality data centre services to customers in Norway. The data centre located in a former high security NATO ammunition storage deep inside a mountain in Stavanger, will provide secure and reliable services for both public and private sector customers.

The services are part of Tieto´s secure data center and cloud offering in the Nordic countries. Tieto´s cloud services are currently used by more than 150 large enterprises and organizations in the region. The data centres offer highest level of security for storage of sensitive data and information. Furthermore, they rely heavily on green IT and energy solutions – the data centre in Stavanger operates solely on renewable energy by using the adjacent fjord for cooling.

As customers across industries seek new ways to reduce costs, improve agility and innovate at a faster pace, the market for transferring infrastructure, business platforms and applications into scalable and flexible cloud environments continues to grow rapidly. In the first quarter of 2016, Tieto revenues from cloud services grew by 72 percent, making it the fastest growing area within the company.

The company’s annual capital expenditure, mainly related to data centres, is anticipated to remain in the range of 3-4 percent of revenue.
