To help Nordic companies to grasp the opportunities of the data-driven world, Tieto has partnered with 720°, an award-winning start-up that works with data on indoor environmental quality. In this partnership, Tieto aims to make buildings more intelligent by using real-time data and analytics.

Data will be the lifeblood of economies and a catalyst for new services in the future. One concrete example Tieto is embarking on is data-driven building automation. Industrial Internet solutions, data-driven analytics and sensor technology can make buildings more intelligent and users happier.

“This is a typical start-up approach and a perfect example of how start-ups can create new services by using existing data and turning it into information and cool new services. The first step for Tieto’s Industrial Internet start-up was to look at sensors and devices that can collect and visualize data. Then we tapped these devices into the network and created the Tieto Connect platform, a cloud-based platform that helps companies to gather, store and manage the data they collect from the sensors. Now Tieto is putting its knowledge and expertise into practice in everyday life to create value for people. In this first case, we will make buildings intelligent using information that is collected, combined and analysed from various sources,” says Taneli Tikka, Head of the Industrial Internet start-up at Tieto.

Data collected by sensors around various locations can provide simple and comprehensible information that helps building operators to minimize facility operating and maintenance costs. For example, information on the actual use of energy can lead to reductions of up to 20% in energy wastage. Moreover, building users get better service, which can result in better productivity and happier customers overall.

Tieto actively uses its global ecosystem of market-leading solution providers to create new services for its customers. To make buildings intelligent, the company has teamed up with 720° – a young company that was named the ‘Best IoT Start-up 2016’ in the entire Nordic region and the ‘Best IoT Start-up 2016’ in Finland by the Nordic Start-up Awards.

The Finnish start-up, 720°, is a cloud based analytics solution for real-time collection and evaluation of indoor environmental quality data. The company offers a single tool that can be used to measure a variety of factors affecting indoor air quality, such as air quality, thermal comfort and noise levels, which all have a direct impact on the well-being of employees. The objective is to collect and analyze data based on which companies can carry out measures to improve the employee experience at work.

"The vision of 720° is to improve lives. We are excited that Tieto has selected us as their partner as it will enable us to make a difference to even more lives through Tieto’s strong Nordic network. This partnership leverages 720° expertise and gives us the possibility to sharpen our focus on being the leading expert in analysing indoor environmental quality data. Making the world a better place by enabling more efficient and healthier workplaces is our shared vision with Tieto," says Rick Aller, Chief Operating Officer of 720°.

Tieto is actively building an ecosystem with leading innovators. The company has previously announced collaboration with Cisco, the world’s leading IT company, Cumulocity and HSB Living Lab in an innovative project to research IT solutions that will enhance future living.
