Tieto’s Annual Report 2016, published today, represents the company’s first steps towards integrated reporting.  Highlights of the report include a value creation model, where the factors affecting Tieto’s value creation as a company as well as a corporate citizen have been opened up.

During 2016, Tieto took significant steps towards reaching its strategic aim - to become customers’ first choice for business renewal as the leading Nordic software and services company. Investments were made in future innovation, growth businesses as well as software-based industry solutions. Tieto also actively worked to strengthen its position as a corporate citizen.

Tieto’s Corporate Responsibility (CR) long-term plan has guided the company’s sustainability work since 2014, and is focused around three long-term objectives: minimizing environmental impact, being an ethical forerunner, and creating value for all stakeholders.

During 2016, Tieto’s reported CO2emissions decreased by 4% to 28 kilo tons. The company’s climate change initiative is mainly focused on increasing energy efficiency in data centres and offices, and reducing business travel. Based on Tieto’s own calculations the CO2avoidance for customers, enabled by the use of Tieto’s digital transaction services, amounted to 228 kilo tons CO2. Tieto believes that digitalization plays a key role in sustainable development for customers as well as society at large.

During the year, Tieto also continued implementing its ethical business practices throughout business operations and supply chain. By the end of 2016, 86% of Tieto’s employees had been trained in the company’s interactive Code of Conduct and Anti-corruption e-learning course. The share of suppliers accepting Tieto’s Supplier Code of Conduct Rule represented 85% of total spend among regular suppliers.

At the end of 2016, Tieto initiated a new CR materiality analysis together with stakeholders with the purpose to evaluate Tieto’s current sustainability impacts. The results will be implemented in a renewed CR and sustainability long-term plan for the years 2017-2020. This plan will also reflect Tieto’s contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, among many other things.

The sustainability disclosures in Tieto’s Annual Report 2016 are prepared in accordance with the core option of the GRI G4 Reporting Guidelines. The full online Annual Report 2016 is available at www.tieto.com/ar2016 The report is also available as a pdf download (eng).
