Tieto will help Swedish Customs to renew its IT systems in connection with a comprehensive overhaul of operations. The new framework agreement for system development and infrastructure involves several consulting companies and is worth approximately SEK 100 million. The agreement is for four years, including an option for one additional year.

- This is a strategically important order and confirmation of our strong local competence. The agreement provides access to our broad portfolio of consultancy services which can aid Swedish Customs in updating its IT support. We are proud to take part in the development of the customs agency of the future, says Mats Brandt, Vice President Industry Public at Tieto Sweden.

Over the next few years, Swedish Customs will introduce electronic customs handling through a project managed by the EU. The goal is for all information between companies and customs to be communicated electronically to provide a simpler and quicker customs handling at a lower cost. The EU has set a target for legislation and IT systems to be fully in place by 2020.

Tieto has supplied IT support for Swedish Customs for more than 20 years in regards to the previous customs data system TDS. Tieto has also worked with Finnish customs for 15 years. Swedish Customs is based in Luleå where Tieto has a strong local presence with about 120 employees and more than 1,000 IT consultants in the surrounding area.
