Monitoring of diabetes care now part of TietoEnator's Effica package TietoEnator and ProWellness have agreed to make the Diabetes care quality system part of the Effica system. Both are widely used by Finnish healthcare organizations. The purpose behind integrating the two systems is to offer Effica users the flexibility of Diabetes, enabling them to monitor diabetes care more closely and to enhance the quality of diabetes care. The Diabetes system is built around the national Finnish care guidelines and the DEHKO model. This makes important information on diabetes care visible and speeds up the daily work of care providers. The information required for quality analysis is also collected during daily work, giving users immediate feedback. The system also provides an open connection to the home, enabling diabetic patients to play an active role in the care team via the Internet or by mobile phone as often as they need. The aim is also to reduce unnecessary hospital visits by patients whose condition is stable. Using Internet and mobile phone technology, the system makes it possible to use information throughout the diabetes care process from basic healthcare to special nursing and home care. Diabetes treatment requires special monitoring and improved quality of care. Despite the high standard of diabetes care in Finland, more than half of diabetics suffer from a poor balance of care resulting in other illnesses that are expensive to treat and significantly weaker quality of life. By developing the quality of diabetes care it is hoped to generate up to one billion Finnish markka in savings.
