The Finnish district bank of Handelsbanken and TietoEnator agree on IT co-operation
The Finnish district bank of Handelsbanken and TietoEnator agree on IT co- operation Handelsbanken and TietoEnator have signed a letter of intent on the introduction of information technology co-operation. According to the agreement, the IT operations of Handelsbanken's district bank in Finland will be carried out in accordance with TietoEnator's partnership model for the finance sector. In practice this means that TietoEnator will have the main responsibility for the maintenance and development of the bank's systems. The objective of the co-operation is to create a solution for the development of the bank's present systems and the implementation of new development projects that is both extensive and flexible. The new model of operation and IT architecture will meet the present and future challenges of the networking world of banking. The solutions arising from the co- operation will for applicable parts be exploited in the entire Handelsbanken Group. The letter of intent will be followed by the actual co-operation agreement, which will be completed during the autumn. The agreement will cover the development, maintenance and operation of the systems. The services to the bank will be supplied by TietoEnator's Finance Sector and Processing and Network Support. TietoEnator is the leading provider of high valued added information technology services in Northern Europe and the leading supplier of payment cards in Eastern Europe. Finance Sector has over 1500 experts and its service strategy is based on a long and close partnership with the customers. Developing systems based on new technology and integrating them into the existing systems is an important part of the service supply. Handelsbanken is a Scandinavian bank group, which carries on retail banking operations in Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. It launched its banking operations in Finland in 1990. Since 1998, the branch office in Finland has been an independent district bank, which today comprises 18 branch offices. The number of personnel is about 440. Handelsbanken offers bank services to private persons and companies. The services comprise lending and deposits, payment transfers, investment, foreign exchange and money market services as well as mutual funds.
