TietoEnator builds new IT support for hospitals in Copenhagen Last autumn TietoEnator Medical won a procurement competition for new IT- support for hospitals in the Copenhagen region. The solution has now been tested in "live situations" and shows that it comes up to expectations. - We have succeeded in getting the traditional hospital systems to work together with laboratory systems and x-ray systems. It is now possible to make diagnoses, book examinations and treatment and get the answers in one and the same sequence, says Christer Björkendal, development manager, TietoEnator Medical. The result is presented via a web-application. Last autumn, eleven Danish hospitals arranged a procurement in the form of a competition. The objective was to get the medical care computer systems to work together. - The challenge was to integrate several older systems based on different technical environments and from different manufacturers, says Christer Björkendal, development manager, TietoEnator Medical. Economic effects TietoEnator estimates that the hospitals will experience economic and qualitative effects from a new IT system. - The fact that the hospitals have a common infrastructure means that they can co-operate in matters concerning procurements of application support and this gives economic advantages. The solution means that all information is stored and will be available to everyone who has authorisation. A lot of registering is duplicated in different systems today and the information is difficult to access, says Christer Björkendal. Eleven Danish hospitals The procurement was organised by eleven Danish hospitals under the guidance of KAS (Københavns Amts Sygehusvæsen) and H:S (Hovedstadens Sygehusfælleskab). TietoEnator won the competition in collaboration with the Italian company GESI. On March 1, the solution was demonstrated for IT people and politicians in Copenhagen. - We were able to see a solution which shows that the integration is possible. The solution is based on open standards which means that the individual hospitals can be connected at the rate they wish, says Niels Rossing, H:S Director of Informatics. During the month of March, H:S estimates that a decision can be made regarding the implementation of TietoEnator/GESI's system. Lars Gahnström, manager of TietoEnator's business area Public Sector sees the success in Copenhagen as an acknowledgement that the company is on the right lines: - Our long-term objectives are to establish ourselves as the leader in IT solutions in the Nordic countries and Europe.
