TietoEnator to provide regional healthcare system to south eastern Finland TietoEnator and Medi-IT Oy owned by the Kymenlaakso hospital district have signed an agreement on the delivery of an Effica healthcare solution. The goal is to implement a regional healthcare system in south eastern Finland for joint use by the South Karelia and Kymenlaakso hospital districts as well as the health centers in Imatra, Kotka and Lappeenranta. Plans also include linking the occupational health services in Kymijoki to the system. The environment and administration of the system, which is expected to have some 5,000 users, will be the responsibility of Medi-IT. - Thanks to the new IT system, the current organization-centered operations can be developed into customer-oriented services. The solution provides healthcare professionals with a tool that supports high-quality care and enables the patient's condition - with his/her permission - to be monitored by all the healthcare organizations involved in the project. Those organizations aim to improve the flow of information, harmonize treatment procedures and remove overlapping procedures and examinations to enhance operations," explains Timo Koivu, Managing Director of Medi-IT. A joint regional system based on Effica that covers both primary healthcare and special medical care enables treatment and treatment chains to be designed and controlled in a whole new way. The system includes patient administration, electronic patient records with the required treatment history as well as resource information of different organizations, which will bring improvement to queue control. The possibility to use, for example, case records through a common regional interface will further enhance regional cooperation. Plans also include the creation of connections from the joint system in south eastern Finland to the university hospital in HUS. TietoEnator is a leading IT partner in social welfare and healthcare services in the Nordic countries. Effica is a comprehensive IT system, which has been developed to provide staff with more time for medical care and to support multi-professional cooperation and focusing on both individual treatments and the planning of further treatment.
