TietoEnator to supply a Linux solution for the Ulvila library TietoEnator will deliver a library system that operates in a Linux environment for the Ulvila City Library. So far, Linux has only been used in some of the libraries' customer workstations. The Ulvila solution will be piloted this autumn. It is the first solution in Finland that includes placing the library's entire database in a Linux environment. Ulvila is one of the so-called Bear (Karhu) municipalities in the Pori region. The region's libraries are currently working on an increasingly intense cooperation. Ulvila's Linux solution will also support regional networking and enable interoperable services between the libraries. - The new solution will offer more covering services for the Ulvila library users, and the library collections can be browsed from the customers' home computers, as well. The new system will also facilitate the library personnel's work, for instance, search for information, handling of different materials and customer services, says Library Services Director Juha Hokkanen.
