Tikkurila Oyj awarded the EcoVadis Silver rating for its sustainability performance

Tikkurila Oyj, a leading Nordic paint company, has been awarded a Silver level rating by EcoVadis for its approach to sustainability and corporate social responsibility as a supplier. Tikkurila is among the top 9 per cent of all companies assessed by EcoVadis i.e. Tikkurila’s score is higher than 91% of the companies assessed and scored on the portal at the date of publication. Tikkurila received the highest score, 80/100, from its environmental performance.
“This was the first time Tikkurila participated in the EcoVadis rating, and we are satisfied with our recognition. This is a valuable indicator of our sustainability work,” says Mats Hägerström, Director, Sustainability at Tikkurila. “Sustainability and corporate social responsibility have a central role in our business. We have been working systematically to develop our sustainability program and performance and we will actively continue this work within our business processes and together with our stakeholders towards reaching our sustainability objectives.”
“The purpose of the paint is to protect the painted surface and the structures underneath it from, for example, climate effects. The less often the surface needs maintenance painting or re-painting, the lower the environmental impact will be. At Tikkurila, we constantly strive to reduce the environmental impact of our own operations and products. We develop products that achieve the longest possible duration and long maintenance intervals,” says Hägerström. “Already over 80 per cent of our paints are waterborne, and our aim is to further increase the share of bio-based and recyclable raw materials.”
EcoVadis operates a platform allowing companies to assess the environmental and social performance of its suppliers on a global basis. The themes of the EcoVadis assessment include Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement.
