i3 micro technology has developed a software development kit for accelerated integrations with Mood IP set-top boxes (STB). The Mood Development Kit (MDK) is designed to meet the flexible and speedy integration needs of middleware and conditional access vendors along with system integrators and service providers.

The MDK offers system integrators, third party software developers and IPTV service providers a powerful and cost-savings tool for integrating with the Mood series of IP set-top boxes.

Creating a successful IPTV deployment is heavily dependant upon integrating the different solution components – quickly, efficiently and reliably. One of the more critical areas for integration is with and within the set-top box (STB). The STB, together with middleware, conditional access and other software needs to be integrated and co-function as an interoperable and aggregate solution.

“Developing triple play solutions can be complicated with many parallel processes involving IPTV ecosystem vendors, system integrators and service providers. Using our MDK makes STB integration a smooth and hassle-free procedure. We provide all the necessary tools in an efficient and easy-to-use environment that saves our partners and customer’s money, not just once, but in all recurring STB integrations” says Dante Iacovoni, Marketing Director at i3 micro technology.

The MDK is typically used by middleware, conditional access, and other software vendors, as well as system integrators and software engineers at i3. The MDK offers a powerful common API, as well as tools for software maintenance and building STB images.

Flexible and comprehensive

As IPTV services evolve, new functionality will be continuously required of the set-top box. Service providers will benefit from the MDK by being able to quickly integrate and adapt to new software and hardware components, reducing cost and increasing their competitive advantage.

For Middleware and Conditional Access Integrations, the MDK enables quick and easy integrations that reduce cost and promote stability. The MDK provides a well defined set of APIs that integrate with high quality i3 software modules. The MDK also allows for reuse of previous integrations and engineering efforts.

For System Integrators, the MDK offers an efficient and powerful tool for creating and deploying STB software builds. Reuse of validated software from other verified field installations increases quality while decreasing support and maintenance costs.

The MDK includes:

- Mood Common API

- Software applications (e.g. Mood Player and Personal Video Recorder)

- Mood Boot Server

- Tool chain for debugging and compiling

- Mood image build tool

- Documentation

- Support for all Mood STB platforms
