The Mood Boot Server is a powerful control center for automated software provisioning and delivery - used for mass deployments of millions of IPTV set-top boxes. The MBS lets operators distribute software to millions of boxes in a fast and secure way. MBS is available now to Tilgin’s customers.

As traffic congestion increases, operators and service providers are looking into ways of minimizing their bandwidth usage. The Mood Boot Server (MBS) offers a solution that allows for an automated quick, secure and efficient distribution of software and updates to customers’ set-top boxes.

“The Mood Boot Server helps our customers to safely and securely automate the booting and software delivery process to their set-tops. We offer a solution that increases customer satisfaction through quick boot handling even when the customer needs to boot-up millions of set-tops”, says Rolf Nordqvist, Senior Product Manager IP set-top boxes, Tilgin.

The MBS combines secure Multicast/Unicast booting, automated service management and nearly limitless scalability. By integrating the low-overhead distribution power of Multicast and the two-way communications of Unicast together with Tilgin’s STB group administration program, MBS brings not only dramatic bandwidth savings but also reduces hands-on management to the point where the number of STBs in the network is nearly irrelevant.

Using MBS, STBs can start downloading sessions any place without waiting for a start point in the transmission. The number of multicast channels used is configurable at the carousel. Bandwidth usage is also configurable at the carousel. Using multicast dramatically reduces network traffic and lowers distribution costs by delivering a single stream simultaneously to millions of recipients rather than establishing a separate two-way connection for each one. The MBS enables central control of millions of STBs in terms of both content delivery and service management. MBS consolidates and simplifies network administration with:

• Automated start-up provisioning
• STB registration and configuration
• STB group administration
• STB grouping that maps directly to the service spreadsheets
• Automatically re-provisioning STB’s with emerging functionality
