STOCKHOLM, 7 DECEMBER 2007: Tilgin, a leading provider of customer premises equipment (CPE) for triple play, next-generation broadband and IMS-based services, is pleased to have been selected as a new member of the Open IPTV Forum, as announced yesterday by Forum Steering Group Chairman Mr. Yun Chao Hu.

Tilgin joins other new members, including Alcatel-Lucent, Amino Communications, Deutsche Telekom, Huawei, LG Electronics, Sun Microsystems, Telefonica, TeliaSonera, Verimatrix Inc. and ZTE Corporation, to drive pan-industry end-to-end specifications for IPTV solutions. Tilgin will be contributing particular expertise in customer premises equipment (CPE) solutions for delivering an expanded IPTV experience. Key contributions will be related to operator managed Home Gateways and IP Set-top Boxes, Remote Management Systems (RMS) and IMS system design for customer premise equipment (CPE).

“We are a full supporter of the Forum’s agenda to drive next-generation IPTV services beyond those currently being deployed”, comments Ola Berglund, Tilgin CEO. “Today’s highly competitive market has created a situation where operators are rushing into the triple play arena with an increasing number of “me too” services. Our business is to provide CPE technology solutions that can help operators differentiate themselves and create long-term sustainable revenue streams from the opportunities offered by convergence.”

Tilgin’s comprehensive expertise in engineering service node environments in the home enables operators to deploy a broader portfolio of new services, giving them a distinct market position and also enabling them better to understand and target their audiences.

“With so many key players in the industry now on board, we believe that the Forum is an important initiative for driving the evolution of new services and applications to the TV”, Ola Berglund continues. “There is a real potential to leverage standards-based convergence capabilities and integrate services that can work with other networks and devices. The TV is on its way to becoming just as important for broadband as the PC is today. ”

Tilgin is leading developments that integrate IMS and DLNA interworking for converged next-generation services to the home. These services include integrations with consumer devices like mobile phones, media servers, network attached storage (NAS), cameras, and home audio systems. Standards like IMS and DLNA play a key factor in driving IPTV to the next stage of its development beyond today’s largely proprietary solutions.
