Paris, France, SIP & TVoDSL 2005, Stand # 122, January 26, 2005 — i3 micro technology (i3), a leading provider of Voice-over-IP (VoIP) and IP-TV products and solutions, today announced the Vood™ 453w, an IP residential gateway that supports enhanced service convergence of data, voice and video over broadband.

The Vood™ 453w offers an excellent platform and foundation for triple play services and home networking solutions. It provides support for broadband speeds up to 24 Mbit/s (ADSL2+) along with both wired 10/100 Mbit/s and wireless 802.11 b/g Ethernet, plus NAT and stateful inspection firewall.

The gateway provides an advanced portfolio of IP telephony services, including extensive support for leading softswitches and media gateways, as well as Voice-over-IP protocols like SIP, H.323 and MGCP. It also enables additional service revenue by providing functionality like unified messaging, built-in answering machine, caller ID, phone book management, etc.

Vood 453w is ideal as a gateway to IP set-top boxes (for IP-TV and on-demand entertainment) with advanced and intuitive multicast handling. The latest multicast technology is supported (IGMP version 3), which includes support for backup streaming servers.

Security features are managed centrally with the i3 CentreTM management system and provide the home network with fraud and hacker protection from both the LAN as well as the broadband connection. The wireless access is also protected by WPA, which provides stronger encryption than previous technologies.

“This new product helps drive service provider presence right into the home,” says Jan Werne, CEO at i3. “Together with our remote management system, the Vood 453w lets the service provider not only provide basic triple services (Internet, VoIP and IP-TV), but it also supplies the ideal platform for building incremental revenues from converged applications and managed services like home networking and security management. The wireless LAN functionality is important in this respect, as more and more devices in the home will be WLAN connected. Our network-oriented design even lets the service provider remote upgrade the WLAN functionality to enable fixed mobile convergence in the home as IMS and UMA based solutions hit the market.”

Cost efficient, powerful and versatile
Vood is an ideal multi-service CPE platform for triple play and a key component of an operator managed (and network oriented) CPE solution. All service provisioning, configuration and management is done remote by the advanced centralized management solution, i3 Centre™. This enables the service provider to handle the networking details all the way to the subscriber terminals, reducing provisioning hassles and providing sources for new revenue. Besides being able to quickly and easily deploy new services, support for dynamic self-provisioning and service personalization, significantly help to reduce helpdesk support and subscriber churn.
