Napa CA (January 28, 2011) --  The Consumer Wine Awards, the annual competition where wine are evaluated and rewarded by consumer panels, is offering restaurants and hotels the opportunity to feature the award winners in a nation-wide promotion. Restaurant and hotel affiliates will select wines from the award winners in four flavor categories: sweet, delicate, smooth and intense then feature these wines by the glass in their restaurants and outlets. Participating venues from Arizona, California, Texas and Georgia have signed up.  “We see this as a great alternative way to promote new and exciting wines, validated by the opinions of every day consumers and will feature a selection of wines in our restaurant, wine bar and retail store,” says Tom Murphy, proprietor of Murphy’s Restaurant, Wine Bar and Wine Store in Atlanta, GA.

Wine producers and importers who submit wines for the Consumer Wine Awards are provided a direct conduit to the consumer through this initiative. Participating restaurants will be looking for new and unique wines they can feature using peer-to-peer recommendations instead of wine scores or “expert” ratings. The tasting and evaluation uses a process developed by Tim Hanni, MW, and is part of a larger consume wine preferences research project. Results from the 2010 Consumer Wine Preferences study are available at the web site.

The Hanni Companies' ongoing research helps industry players learn what consumers really like instead of what "they are told" to like, and to segment their offering based on sensory facts rather than "style" or "origin." This provides wine consumers and wine sellers with a new means to engage, explore and share new wines with flavor-based recommendations from other consumers. "We get our data on what the real consumer wants and insights on how to improve quality and market to them on their terms," Hanni says.  "We get factual data via our survey concerning taste sensitivity, age, gender, region, etc., and this is exactly what the industry needs to grow and prosper."

Producers and importers can submit their wines for evaluation thus qualifying for the program. Submission forms and information is available at www.consumerwineawards.com.

Restaurants, hotels and wine retailers can contact Tim Hanni MW directly at 707-337-0327 to sign up or learn more about this exciting program.

The Consumer Wine Awards, sponsored by the Lodi Tokay Rotary Club, benefits local and national charitable projects.
