Timberline Knolls Fights Youth Suicide
Timberline Knolls Hosts Community Event with Mayor of Lemont and The Jason Foundation
Youth suicide is a growing national and local health problem and something everyone should be concerned about. To discuss this silent epidemic in the local community, Timberline Knolls, which serves as the only community resource center (CRC) in Illinois for The Jason Foundation, a non-profit organization whose goal is the prevention of youth suicide through awareness programs and campaigns, is hosting a community event, 1 – 3 p.m., Tuesday, June 10, at the Lemont Township Community Center, 16300 Alba, in Lemont, Ill.
“At Timberline Knolls, our goal is to not only change lives, but save lives – to instill hope and set women and girls free from addiction and devastating disorders,” said Kim Dennis MD, CEO and medical director of Timberline Knolls, a residential treatment center located in Lemont that treats women and adolescent girls struggling with eating disorders, addiction, trauma, mood and co-occurring disorders. ”Our greatest sorrow is when a young person commits suicide instead of getting the help he or she needs. Help is available and recovery is possible.”
The event is free, open to the public, and geared towards behavioral and mental health professionals; school administrators, educators and assistance professionals at the middle and high school levels; Village of Lemont city and elected officials; local law enforcement; Timberline Knolls employees; local alumnae from Timberline Knolls and their family members, and others. Refreshments will be served.
Highlighted speakers for the event include: Dr. Kim Dennis, CEO and medical director, Timberline Knolls; Brian Reeves, Mayor of Lemont; and Clark Flatt, president of The Jason Foundation.
A moment of silence will be held in honor of those who have lost their lives to suicide.
“Youth suicide can be prevented, and that is what The Jason Foundation and this event is all about,” adds Clark Flatt, president of The Jason Foundation. “Together we can help stop this epidemic.”
