Data Losses Hit Home, Especially When Moving
Tiversa educates executives about P2P Network dangers and data losses
Cranberry Township, PA (July 30, 2012) – According to the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, more than two million pieces of vital information have been lost or stolen in the U.S. over the past eight months when organizations decided to move data or equipment because of a relocation of a business or just transferring the data from one place to another.
Since last January, data losses in California, Maryland, Colorado, Alabama, Virginia, Ohio and Missouri have provided the latest examples of something going wrong in the world of data protection. These examples are the reason why the Greater Washington Employee Relocation Council asked Tiversa to speak at its recent meeting in Washington, DC about cyber-related issues.
“While personal or confidential information being lost or stolen is significant, it’s just the tip of the iceberg when taking into account it’s often just the beginning of a process where the data is spread globally, usually for a price,” said James Tormasi, Tiversa’s Federal Account Executive and presenter at the event. “At Tiversa, we follow lost or stolen information every day, and I believe, if everyone had a better understanding of how this data changes possession globally, they would never let the equipment out of sight.”
The Greater Washington Employee Relocation Council meets quarterly each year to discuss issues surrounding the relocation of corporate and federal employees. At the June meeting, approximately 120 executives of corporations and federal agencies that transfer employees and representatives of the relocation companies were in attendance to hear Tiversa, as well as FBI Supervisory Special Agent Kevin Burton.
