Czech Spas Open the New Season: 857th Season in Teplice

Beethoven’s Year and Special Coffee in Teplice

Teplice (www.teplice.cz), the oldest spa in the Czech Republic, will open its 857th spa season this year. As usual, Teplice will hold on the last weekend of May, 28 to 29 May this year, the ceremonial sanctification of springs as well as spectacular celebrations. What’s more, the year 2011 is an important one for this town: it will be the 200th anniversary of the German composer Ludwig van Beethoven’s visit to Teplice. The town will commemorate such an important occasion throughout the season. Visitors coming to Teplice will have an opportunity to stay in Beethoven’s room that has recently undergone a renovation. Clients fancying luxurious amenities will definitely appreciate a newly furnished Imperial suite in the Emperor’s Spa (Císařské lázně). A new souvenir has been prepared for all visitors to Teplice: the spa coffee. They will be able to savour the delicious drink made of South and Central American roasted coffee beans exclusively for the town of Teplice, together with spa wafers.

Charles IV and the Empress “Sisi” in Karlovy Vary

In the most famous spa in the Czech Republic, Karlovy Vary (www.karlovy-vary.cz), the ceremonious season will be opened on 6 and 7 May by their founder Charles IV himself, followed by a procession. The rich programme will include, for example, an Old Czech fair or a porcelain celebration, taking place in front of the Grandhotel Pupp. The town of Karlovy Vary, too, has a lot of new things to offer to their visitors. “Elizabeth Baths” (www.spa5.cz), named after the Empress Sisi, will celebrate their 105th anniversary. They will offer their clients Elizabeth’s bath with mineral water, an Indian anti-stress head massage or a Hawaiian relaxation massage, for example. 

“Nová Marie” in Mariánské Lázně 

The town of Mariánské Lázně (www.marianskelazne.cz) will ceremoniously open its season on 13-15 May, for the 202nd time already. The celebrations will open on Friday with a night concert performed by the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra. After a Saturday ceremonious mass in the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary (Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie), a Premonstratensian procession from the Teplá monastery will pass the monument of the town’s founder, Karel Kašpar Reitenberg, to finish their journey at the Cross Spring. A top event of the season is the reopening of a freshly renovated spa called “Nová Marie” (www.marienbad.cz), amounting to more than 4 million euros, that offers its clients comfortable accommodation as well as a wide range of services and spa treatment. The treatment itself involves a natural Mary’s gas CO2 and peat, in particular.

The spa hotel “Royal Spa” (www.royalspa.cz) will be offering its clients special spa and wellness packages and stays for high-end customers. The guests can enjoy wholesome baths at Balbín’s Spring or massages with herbal sachets.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie in Jáchymov

The first radon spa in the world (www.laznejachymov.cz) will open the season on the last weekend of May (27-29 May). The attractive events include, for example, a vintage bicycle and car ride through the town. According to local tradition, the leaders will be Marie Skłodowska-Curie and her husband riding a tandem bicycle. You will also have an opportunity to admire traditional crafts from the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory) or participate in an uphill race. You can also look forward to a new offer in Jáchymov: The “Radium Palace” hotel has prepared a detoxication wellness package for its clients and the “Běhounek” hotel will organise a “FIT” weekend, a two-day programme full of physical activities. The “Astorie” spa house has furbished a new breakfast lounge for its guests and the “Dalibor” house has just been reopened after a full renovation.

Art Nouveau Show in Poděbrady 

In the spa town of Poděbrady, located in Central Bohemia, the season will open as early as when April turns to May (30.04.-01.05.). Local springs will be blessed on the first May. Poděbrady spa focuses on children as well and so the youngest clients will also be able to enjoy the entertaining programme, ranging from fairytale performances to concerts. Hat fans will definitely not want to miss the Art Nouveau hat show that will take place directly at the colonnade. The top news of this season is an atopic eczema treatment package.

Oasis of Peace and Relax in Lázně Mšené

In Lázně Mšené (www.msene.cz), situated 45 kilometres from Prague, the 205th season will start on 7 May. A rich side programme will include classical as well as country music. For the first time this year, visitors will have an opportunity to admire the beauty of the original interior of the spa restaurant “Dvorana”, which has undergone a comprehensive renovation, and move back in time to 1905. Additionally, the small family spa has diversified its treatment and wellness procedures and so everyone will enjoy the spa to the fullest. A new offer includes aerobic or zumba programmes as well as special physiotherapeutic packages for older guests.

Oriental Steam Spa in Lázně Bělohrad and School of Walking in Vráž

Ann’s Peat Spa (www.belohrad.cz), awarded by the prestigious “EUROPESPA med” quality certificate as the first facility in Europe, will open the new season on 21 May in Lázně Bělohrad. Visitors can look forward to a “best pancake” culinary competition, majorettes march, a miniature golf tournament as well as numerous musical performances. They will get pampered with various spa procedures in Bělohrad that include, for instance, oriental steam baths, natural peat packs or body and face treatment with 24-carat gold.

The Vráž spa (www.lazne-vraz.cz) has prepared new “SPRING” and “SUMMER” wellness packages for this season and a new “School of Walking” project for its handicapped patients. Moreover, it has also enlarged their wheelchair accessible premises.

Outdoor Exercise in Luhačovice

In Luhačovice (www.lazneluhacovice.cz) the “springs will be opened” ceremoniously on 13- 15 May and the “Luhačovice Cultural Summer” will be launched, including a series of colonnade concerts of various genres. The new season will open with a brand new package, the stay called the “Traditional Spa Treatment”, including various procedures including local mineral springs, traditional hydrotherapy and Luhačovice outdoor exercise, a return to a traditional type of wholesome exercise dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. Additionally, a new luxurious four-star interwar-style Spa&Wellness Hotel Alexandria was opened here at the end of the last year, after an extensive renovation.

Hot Shells in Lednice

On a ceremonious opening of the spa season taking place on 7 May in Lednice (www.lednicelazne.cz), you will move back in time to the 1920s and 1930s. Visitors will admire vintage cars and bicycles as well as a fashion show featuring period costumes, hats and even lingerie from the interwar era. Fairytales, competitions and magician’s show will be prepared for children. Stylish music will brighten the afternoon, accompanied by spa wafers, liquors and cakes served for free. What’s more, those of you who come wearing a costume will receive a ticket for a boat ride in the chateau park. A number of new packages will be prepared for spa clients in Lednice including, among others, the “Coconut Rejuvenation”, “The Good of Chocolate”, hot wax massage according to zodiac or a hot shell massage.

Indian medicine in Teplice nad Bečvou

120 vintage cars and motorcycles manufactured before 1939 will open the spa season in Teplice nad Bečvou (www.ltnb.cz). Competitions for children as well as adults, practical information available on Nordic walking, and of course concerts will be taking place in this spa town. This season the spa clients will be able to try an absolutely unique treatment: original ayurvedic massages by Indian masseurs. The head of this treatment is a leading Indian therapist coming from Kerala, the heart of this eastern medicine.

Hodonín Spa Cocktail

The 33rd spa season will be opened on 6 May in the town of Hodonín (www.laznehodonin.cz). A fair with folk arts and crafts, spa barbecue and special spa cocktails, a traditional dulcimer band, a fashion show, swing show, orient express dance show and many other attractive events will be taking place during the whole day. The year 2011 will be marked by “spa/regional tourism”: Hodonín has prepared packages including various thematic few days’ stays for its visitors and the spa treatment will be accompanied by a tasting of unique regional specialities.

Folk Fair in Lázně Jeseník and Exotic Massages in Třeboň

Springs of the Priessnitz Spa in Jeseník will be blessed by the clergy from the Olomouc archbishopric on 13-16 May. Just as in the other spa towns, you can look forward to a rich side programme with concerts and a folk fair.

The Třeboň spa does not carry on the tradition of season openings – their season spans throughout the year; nevertheless, they have prepared a wide range of new services, including, for example, relaxing exotic massages.

Fairytale Forest near Velké Losiny

In Lázně Velké Losiny (www.lazne-losiny.cz) the season opens, traditionally, on 1 May, when an outdoor thermal pool is opened for people of all ages. Local train called the “Spa Express” will bring you around the town. A theatre festival is planned for this summer in Velké Losiny where plays are performed directly in the courtyard of the local Renaissance chateau. Additionally, a new ski resort called Kouty with a cable car running in winter as well as summer will take you to a magical forest crowded with carved storybook characters.  

New Colonnade in Ostrožská Nová Ves

Ostrožská Nová Ves (www.laznenovaves.cz), located in Moravian Slovakia, will open the season on 21 May. Guests will be able to rest at a new relaxation zone with a colonnade, a summer café and three shops. Other new facilities include a multifunctional sport centre situated in the spa park, new cobbled pavements lined with benches, sundial and a playground. Guest coming to attend the ceremonious opening will see a traditional Moravian programme featuring folklore ensembles.
