Tokmanni to open its comprehensively refurbished store in Ylöjärvi, which is now double the size and has a wider offering – Ylöjärvi store is now a full-service grocery store
Tokmanni Press release 13 March 2024 at 12:45 p.m.
On Thursday 14 March 2024 at 8 am, Tokmanni will be celebrating its store located in Elovainio in Ylöjärvi, in the immediate vicinity of junction of highway 3 and main road 65. The store has been comprehensively refurbished, extended to double the size and is now considerably more diverse. The store is now also a full-service grocery store.
The Tokmanni store in Ylöjärvi, which already offered a comprehensive range of products, will be one of the variety discount retailer’s 20 full-service grocery stores. The store’s selection now includes around 8,000 grocery products, from fruit and vegetables to bread and fresh fish. The assortments also include beverages, stock lots and Priima private label groceries, and the products of numerous local and small-scale producers. The store also has a service counter and an in-store bakery, both offering a wide range of products.
The store was extended into a grocery store after a business transaction, signed last autumn, where Tokmanni took control of the business of local grocery store Villen Kauppa at the beginning of the year. During the first months of the year, Tokmanni has been combining its store that was around 3,050 square metres and the Villen Kauppa store, which was practically the same size and served under the same roof, into a single Tokmanni store complex of around 5,750 square metres.
In addition to the abundant grocery selection, other product offerings have been added to the Tokmanni store in Ylöjärvi, such as an entire shop-in-shop department of Miny products. The assortments of the Miny lifestyle brand, launched in 2022, include a wide range of beauty, wellbeing and interior decoration products and other surprising and interesting things to buy. Similar shop-in-shop departments comprising over 1,000 products, can already be found in around 40 Tokmanni stores across Finland. Miny shop-in-shop departments can also be found in other Tokmanni stores in the Ylöjärvi area in Hervanta and the Koskikeskus shopping centre, which are both in Tampere. Tokmanni also has six stores dedicated to the Miny lifestyle brand, and one is next to the Tampere Central Square, which is about 15 kilometres from the Tokmanni store in Ylöjärvi.
The Tokmanni store in Ylöjärvi now also has a more comprehensive shop-in-shop footwear department of the Click Shoes shoe store chain. This will please many local residents, as the Click Shoes store in the nearby Elo shopping centre closed in January when its lease expired. Click Shoes joined the Tokmanni Group last year.
As a result of the refurbishment, the garden department located next to the store is now larger and has a wider selection.
“Our customers have been very happy to shop at the Elovainio commercial centre, not only at Tokmanni, but also at the Villen Kauppa grocery store. By extending our Tokmanni store to include a grocery store with wide assortments, we can offer customers who previously shopped at Villen Kauppa with a wide range of grocery products at Tokmanni’s familiar low prices,” says Timo Heimo, Vice President of Sales and Supply Chain at Tokmanni.
The Tokmanni store in Ylöjärvi takes the wishes of local residents into account. Just like Villen Kauppa, the store now has a service counter offering a wide range of products, and sells products from local and small-scale producers, such as sausages produced by Nakki-Hannu, processed meat products made by Yrjö Wigren and Tapola, and bread produced by Leivon Leipomo bakery.
“Together with our assortment of grocery products, our Miny and Click Shoes shop-in-shop departments and other improvements to the store will help to further increase Tokmanni's appeal in Ylöjärvi and the surrounding areas,” says Heimo.
Store Manager Anne Toivio and her team of around 35 retail professionals will take care of customer service at the Tokmanni store in Ylöjärvi.

Tokmanni focuses on sustainability and smart services
Tokmanni pays considerable attention to sustainability also in its stores. For example, in Ylöjärvi the Tokmanni store property’s building services are remotely controlled with an automated system, so that settings affecting energy consumption can be monitored around the clock and adjusted from a control room as needed. In addition, a solar power plant is currently being planned for the store. The lighting in all Tokmanni stores is produced with energy-efficient LED technology.
As part of other refurbishments to the store in Ylöjärvi, Tokmanni has upgraded the refrigeration equipment in its grocery product departments to new, energy-efficient models. The store now also has a convenient recycling point where customers can bring their used batteries and broken small electronic appliances, such as coffee machines, shavers, electric toothbrushes and light bulbs.
Waste is minimised by optimising product order volumes and deliveries, for example. In addition, food products that are about to expire are sold at substantial discounts.
In all Tokmanni stores, customers can also make purchases through the Tokmanni Tukku B2B sales function and the Tokmanni Klubi customer loyalty program. Customers can also pick up orders made through the Tokmanni online store and withdraw cash when paying at the checkout.
Tokmanni’s popular loyalty program, Tokmanni Klubi, has more than three million members. Its loyal customer benefits are also available in the Tokmanni store in Ylöjärvi.
Special offers, surprise buckets and extensive opening hours
Tokmanni will celebrate the opening of its refurbished store with plenty of special offers from the day of opening on Thursday until the end of the week. The store will also give away Tokmanni’s famous surprise buckets filled with various product gifts. In Ylöjärvi, the surprise buckets will be handed out to the first thousand customers on the opening day on 14 March. In addition, Tokmanni gift cards worth EUR 100 have been hidden in two of the buckets.
The Tokmanni store in Ylöjärvi serves its customers in a versatile commercial centre in the immediate vicinity of junction of highway 3 and main road 65, at Elotie 9, 33470 Ylöjärvi. The store will be open on weekdays and Saturdays from 8 am to 9 pm and on Sundays from 9 am to 8 pm. The Tokmanni store has been open throughout the refurbishment project.
