Tokmanni Group Corporation has published its Sustainability Report 2023 today, Thursday 18 April 2024. In its sustainability report, the Group demonstrates how it makes responsible choices available for all. In addition, the Group describes its most important sustainability themes and achievements. The report has been prepared in accordance with GRI standards. However, it does not yet comply with CSRD requirements, but the Group is well prepared for reporting according to ESRS standards.
Sustainability work is about concrete actions, meetings with different stakeholders, and bringing sustainable choices into people’s everyday life. Sustainable and responsible business conduct is a strategic choice for Tokmanni Group, and one of the success factors of its strategy. For the personnel, sustainability means, above all, working in accordance with the Group’s values.
“In 2023, our Finnish variety discount retailer Tokmanni Group started its international expansion. As we now operate in Finland, Sweden, and Denmark, the importance and effectiveness of our sustainability work are emphasised more than ever before,” says Mika Rautiainen, President and CEO of Tokmanni Group, in the Group’s Sustainability Report 2023 and on the website.
“We will continue to serve our customers with pride, and our ambition is to be the leader in sustainability in Northern Europe’s variety discount retail segment,” he adds.
Examples of Tokmanni Group’s sustainability highlights in 2023
Tokmanni**:
- Tokmanni systematically reduced its climate impacts. Tokmanni received a B score from CDP. Tokmanni uses 100% carbon-free electricity. Tokmanni’s solar panels covered nearly 10% of annual total measured electricity consumption. In addition, over 49% of Tokmanni suppliers by spend have set science-based climate targets.
- The design and construction work of Tokmanni’s new logistics centre Moreeni complies with the ‘Very Good’ rating level of the BREEAM environmental certification criteria.
- Injury rate at Tokmanni has decreased nearly 30% from previous year, showing the results of persistent efforts.
- Tokmanni launched a bi-weekly centralised induction day for its new store employees.
- During 2023, 3,284 Tokmanni employees participated in at least one training.
- Tokmanni was the first Finnish retail chain to bring Ecocert certified personal hygiene series Luonnon Pisara as private label.
- Collaboration with John Nurminen Foundation continued for the fourth year in a row – altogether EUR 163,000 has been donated to protect the Baltic Sea.
- The company prepared for tightening sustainability legislation.
- 97% of Tokmanni’s sourcing from risk countries came from third-party audited factories.
- Tokmanni expanded its cooperation with MIELI Mental Health Finland in 2023, donating EUR 10,000 in total from the sales of Arki 360° products to domestic mental health and crisis relief.
Dollarstore:
- Dollarstore took first big steps towards more sustainable business.
- Dollarstore launched the first whistleblowing channel for anonymous reporting.
- Dollarstore started the integration of Group’s policies into its operation.
- Dollarstore joined amfori BSCI.
- Majority of the office employees and store and warehouse managers at Dollarstore completed the Code of Conduct training.
Tokmanni Group:
- The Group published its updated Human Rights Policy.
- A successful collaboration of Tokmanni’s sustainability work with Shoe House and Dollarstore began.
