CREATE LONGER LASTING WINDOWS WITH COMPOSITE BEADING FROM TOOLFIX
One of the most important elements of a window frame is one of its smallest – the beading. Beading is used externally and internally on windows to keep the glazing in place. However, beading on timber windows can form a water trap and is often the first component of a window system to rot and fail.
Water ingress can damage both the beading and the main frame of the window itself. At the very least, timber beads will need regular maintenance or replacement – creating both cost and inconvenience.
The simplest and most cost effective solution is to replace the element that is most likely to fail – the beading – with a product that is longer-lasting and more resistant to weathering than ordinary timber.
A robust and cost-effective solution to beading replacement is Q-Wood innovative composite timber beading.
Anthony Burt of Toolfix Joinery and Construction Supplies explains: “Q-Wood profiles reflect the natural appearance and feel of wood while retaining the beneficial properties of a composite. They can be used for interior or exterior applications where weathering and durability is required. They are used widely in the timber window industry to replace traditional timber beading.”
Q-Wood composite timber profiles integrated into windows and doors add beauty and enhance performance. The profiles can be used to secure the glazing in place while enabling suitable ventilation for the double glazing unit.
Composite beads, bars and moulds are replacing traditional timber components to provide an improved solution that increases productivity while reducing labour, waste and ongoing maintenance requirements. They require no moisture extraction, treatment, acclimatising or conditioning. Uniformity means no knots and therefore no labour-intensive inspection and sorting is needed.
The consistency of Q-Wood also means waste can be drastically reduced as it will not bow, splinter, swell, crack or rot. Therefore, only off-cuts will be left over; everything else will be fitted to the window or door. The standard stock profile length is three metres but Q-Wood can also be supplied in a length that best suits the users’ production facilities, by special order subject to quantities, thus helping to reduce waste further.
“Because of the use of wood fibres in Q-Wood, when finished it looks and feels every bit as good as timber but with added benefits. Q-Wood has no gaps to fill or knots to cover. The smooth surface without imperfections creates the perfect ‘canvas’ for paint, ensuring that the finish achieved is excellent,” said Anthony Burt.
Q-Wood profiles are manufactured from sustainably sourced materials and can be produced using Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody sourced timber. Using timber in the manufacturing process combines the elements of nature while delivering the performance of a composite.
The profiles maintain form and straightness, do not crack or rot, can be painted and are suitable for both internal and external applications. Profiles can also be supplied in lengths to suit specific production requirements.
Anthony Burt added: “All Q-Wood profiles are produced to the highest quality and every Q-Wood profile that leaves the manufacturing site is guaranteed to be to specification.”
