British manufacturer, Avery Berkel, announces the arrival of its new Xs range of scales for fresh food retailers; versatile scales designed to simplify point of sale weigh, label and print.
Xs is a one-stop compact scale with a powerful processor, able to complete a wealth of back-office management tasks at the touch of a button, making accurate pricing and stock control easy.
Xs follows in the tradition of the quality retail scales produced from Birmingham-based Avery Berkel, drawing on the brand’s long trusted engineering expertise and innovation. Xs is packed with market-leading technology, all in place to help fresh food retailers manage their businesses effectively and accurately, from butchers or fishmongers to confectioners and grocers.
With busy fresh food retailers in mind, Xs can also complete a wide variety of food labelling and print functions, giving retailers a versatile and intelligent solution, managed through Avery Berkel’s own MXBusiness system software.
The Xs scale is also easy to clean, with a stainless steel weighing plate able to weigh anything from 2g to 25kg, in any food preparation environment. Its business management functions mean Xs can serve one customer on multiple scales, or multiple customers on the same scale, whatever the retail need.
Xs is easily convertible from Xs400 to Xs200/Xs100, and Xs200 to Xs100 and includes multi-modes: receipt, cash control, counter-labelling or pre-pack, fully mountable either on or off a cash-drawer. Its bespoke label printing makes sure businesses are up-to-date with the latest labelling and allergen legislation.

Xs put to the test
Case Study: Roots and Fruits, Cheltenham
Roots and Fruits greengrocer and florist in Cheltenham installed an Xs scale system in a bid to reduce queue times for customers and simplify service. Owner, Andrew Artus, replaced the combination of price computing scales and separate cash registers at Roots and Fruits with two paired Xs 200 scales, with cash drawers and barcode scanners, removing the need for customers to complete two transactions at different tills.
Within one day of installing the Xs scales and companion equipment system, staff saw the benefits of the solution in their store, with queues reduced and customers impressed with the wide viewing screen.
Andrew Artus said: “The new Xs system helped immediately. We have been able to serve customers in a far more efficient speedy way. Customers like the screen it’s bright and clear for them to read which means they buy what they need quickly and easily.”
Andrew said its ease of use was a hit with staff, especially the customised keyboard: “The Xs simply makes more sense, the display is clear and fully customised so that staff are not searching for goods.”
Andrew and the team at Roots and Fruits use their Xs system scales in cash control mode with the cash drawers and barcode scanners also having a positive impact on the store. Andrew said: “The Xs scales with cash drawers are far faster than our tills, so handling cash is much easier. This was especially obvious during the busy Christmas trading period, where queue waiting times were noticeably reduced for customers.”
He added: “There is nothing I would change on the Xs – we are very happy with them.”
