Following the successful launch of Continental Tyres’ dedicated range of bus and coach tyres, the company will once again be showcasing its Generation 3 products at this year’s Euro Bus Expo on 4th– 6thNovember.
First rolled out in 2013, Continental Tyres’ Generation 3 range of tyres for the passenger sector has been specifically designed for the market to help customers achieve lowest overall driving costs while meeting increasing environmental and safety requirements. At the Euro Bus Expo 2014, Continental Tyres will showcase the Conti Urban, Conti CityPlus and Conti Coach ranges, along with its innovative tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ContiPressureCheck, which helps to reduce the risk of tyre breakdowns and can also cut fuel costs and increase the tyres’ service life.
The new Conti Urban city bus tyre has an extremely robust casing design, with reinforced sidewalls to allow it to withstand constant acceleration, braking and kerb contact in bus bays and around the town. It combines ride comfort and operating safety with a 20 percent longer life that can be further extended by retreading and regrooving. The tyre also benefits from reduced rolling resistance.
The new regional coach tyre, Conti CityPlus provides outstanding all-round performance. It provides excellent economy due to its extended mileage, retreading and regrooving capabilities and optimised rolling resistance, with a high level of driving comfort and operating safety. Further benefits include a thicker sidewall to protect the tyre from damage as well as enhanced wet braking capabilities provided by the new 3D tread structure.
The Conti Coach tyre has been developed for long distance travel and offers operators excellent fuel economy as well as high safety levels thanks to its directional stability, precise steering and excellent wet handling performance over the whole life of the tyre.
Visitors to the stand at Euro Bus Expo 2014 will also be able to discuss the ContiPressureCheck TPMS system. With over 90 per cent of all tyre failures proceeded by slow leaks, identifying a problem early on is critical. Underinflation is also one of the main causes of excessive tyre wear and damage, reducing overall service life and significantly affecting rolling resistance, which increases both fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
ContiPressureCheck measures the pressure and temperature of each individual tyre every few seconds and delivers the results to the driver information display in the cab, meaning any problems are caught and dealt with as early as possible. This enables punctured tyres to be repaired and refitted in the majority of cases which saves the cost and inconvenience incurred by an emergency tyre breakdown callout.
