DAF Trucks named again as national Top 100 Apprentice Employer

DAF Trucks has been recognised in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer list as compiled by the National Apprenticeship Service. Acknowledging ‘excellence in businesses that employ apprentices’, the Top 100 list is drawn-up annually and it is the fourth occasion in five years in which DAF Trucks has featured with its DAF Apprentice Programme.

The list, sponsored by City & Guilds, was announced at the National Apprenticeship Awards on 26th January at the Grosvenor House hotel in London. The selection process identifies exceptional apprenticeship employers from across all the National Apprenticeship Award employer categories.

The news comes after DAF Trucks last November celebrated the 20th Anniversary of its DAF Apprentice Programme. Regarded by many in the industry as the benchmark commercial vehicle training scheme for young people, DAF Trucks has trained 1,500 Apprentices since its inception in 1995, while a full 20% of all DAF Technicians at dealer level were trained on DAF Apprenticeships.

Tony Shepherd, Business Services Manager, said, “Here we see further proof that our DAF Apprentice Programme is not only a benchmark programme in the commercial vehicle industry, but, and as confirmed for the fourth time, it’s also among the best in any industry.

“We’re pleased to be recognised, of course,” he said, “but that won’t stop us from striving to drive-up standards still further. It’s an investment, no less, into the future of DAF Trucks in the UK. I’ve said this before,” he added, “the success of the DAF Apprentice Programme is thanks in no small part to the support DAF Dealer network – in itself the biggest and best network in the CV business.”
