To help reduce emissions and cut downtime, Chargemaster has installed one of its Rapid Charger units at Highways England’s Dartford depot.

With the ability to recharge a battery to 80% in just 25 minutes, Chargemaster’s Rapid Charger is a 'triple-standard' unit with three separate plugs to connect to the widest possible range of electric vehicles. This includes a DC 44kw CHAdeMO plug, a DC 44kW CCS Combo plug and an AC 43kW Type 2 plug.

The Rapid Charger will become one of more than 30,000 charging points that Chargemaster has supplied to government organisations, businesses and consumers across the UK. The company also operates POLAR, the UK’s largest network of public chargers, with more than 4,000 points across the country.

Chargemaster’s chief executive, David Martell, said: “We are delighted to provide Highways England with its first Rapid Charger at the Dartford Crossing. The real-world benefits of our Rapid Charger units will ensure that Highways England’s EVs [electric vehicles] will not only be charged faster, but also ensure the vehicles are used to their maximum potential, whilst reducing emissions in the process.”

Highways England’s team manager, Russell Bagshaw added: “We are keen to see a reduction in emissions on UK roads, and our new electric vehicles will help us realise this. The addition of Chargemaster’s Rapid Charger means that we have the option to plug in hybrid vehicles without needing to rely on the internal combustion engine.”
