London – Travellers, backpackers and holidaymakers can now use public transport with confidence in more cities and countries around the world, thanks to HERE Maps. As well as highly detailed maps, the app features public transport information for nearly 1,000 cities across 44 countries, meaning explorers can get the inside track on the best route to take.

With up-to-the-minute information on routes and timetables covering more than 6,000 bus and train routes worldwide, HERE Maps allows adventurers to navigate bus and train journeys in four continents. Explorers can also download maps to their device before their journey, meaning they don’t have to rely on local internet connectivity or incur data roaming charges. Even when offline, basic public transport route and line information is available.

The local line

With coverage across nearly 400 cities covered in South East Asia alone, HERE allows travellers to cover great distances within the area using the navigation app. Explore the beautiful Malaysian island of Penang from its capital, Georgetown; live the high life at Singapore’s Marina Bay or seek out the very best cat cafes that Taiwan’s capital, Taipei has to offer.

In India, with information on public transport in 23 areas, travellers can take in the pink stucco buildings of Jaipur, navigate the chaos of Mumbai at rush hour, or discover the incredible local cuisine in Chennai.

Or, in Russia, with public transport information shown in 82 areas, travellers can navigate the Trans-Siberian railway to find enlightenment at Ulan Ude – the country’s capital for Buddhism– or visit Perm, the town that inspired Boris Pasternak’s Doctor Zhivago.

Justus Brown, Head of Urban Mobility at HERE said: “Many people are hesitant to use public transport when travelling to new places because sometimes it’s hard to figure it out. We can change that. With HERE Maps we provide information on thousands of public transport journeys around the world so that travelers and holidaymakers can plan their journey on public transport with confidence.”

HERE Maps is available to download for free for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
