IPL returns to DAF

After a brief hiatus, Southampton-based IPL Haulage has returned to DAF Trucks as its preferred truck supplier with the delivery of four new Euro-6 XF 460 FTG 6x2 tractor units.

The quartet of DAF’s premium duty long-haul tractors were acquired on a four-year funding package with PACCAR Financial, and supplied with five-year DAF MultiSupport Repair & Maintenance contracts through local DAF dealer, Adams Morey Ltd.

The new XFs feature 460bhp MX-13 engines and AS Tronic automated gearboxes. With drivers very much in mind, IPL specified Super Space Cabs to provide a high level of equipment – creature comforts include microwaves, ‘fridges and inverters. DAF telematics is also installed and, with some driver training scheduled, IPL hopes to further improve already impressive productivity figures.

The container haulage specialist is also bolstering its 30-truck fleet with the introduction of four used Euro-5 DAF XFs.

“DAF provides impressive service levels,” said Managing Director, Ian Percival, “We don’t suffer many incidents with our DAF trucks – our 99% ‘on-time’ service over 12 months for our customer, NYK Line, proves that point. It’s in the third and fourth year of ownership when DAF’s quality begins to show – that’s the truck on the road and the service support that keeps it there. I go back a long way with DAF,” he said, “and I have a good working relationship with Adams Morey.

“I’m pleased to be back with DAF,” he continued, “and my drivers are, too. The Super Space Cabs have that X-factor, and offer the driver something a little bit extra. We value our drivers and I believe a happy driver is a productive one. That’s why I prefer a one-man-one-truck operation,” he added, “to instill a sense of pride.”

In a new move for the company, IPL has introduced a new open storage facility at its Totton location, where 850 pallets are processed and stored at any given time.

IPL boasts a number of Blue-Chip customers. Shipping and Logistics giant, NYK Line has awarded its Haulier of the Year prize to IPL for 2014 making it three years in succession which is no mean feat in this cut throat business , “Our 99% ‘on time’ service is testament to DAF reliability,” said Percival, “you can’t hit that sort of service level without a good truck.”
