McMurrays Haulage in Accrington has increased the DAF content of its fleet with the addition of five Euro-6 XF 460 FTG tractor units. The new 6x2 units now bring the DAF share of McMurrays 50-strong fleet up to some 20 vehicles – a mix of XF tractors and CF rigids.

David McMurray, managing director of the company and the third generation of the family to be involved in it, said, “The new DAFs are needed to cope with expansion in the business. We have seen existing customer traffic growing healthily over the last 12 months, as well as attracting strong levels of interest from new customers.

“Our experience with DAF trucks on the fleet has been very good: in fact we have broken our own policy of three-year replacement because they have run without almost any problems – and we are still not spending money on them in their fourth year with us. Just as important in this day and age, the fuel consumption on the DAFs has been very good throughout, and that always makes a highly positive impact on any haulage operation. So, based on all that,” he said, “we’ve gone for an even higher spec on the new XFs, including alloy wheels. The image will be good for us with our customers and our drivers will be very happy. They like the old DAFs and are going to love these! ”

The new DAFs have been supplied on Operating Lease arrangements through PACCAR Financial, “The best of anybody,” says McMurrray, through local dealer, Lancashire DAF. McMurray Haulage handles routine maintenance on its own site, but uses Lancashire DAF for everything else. Said David McMurray, “The local dealer is excellent – genuinely excellent. They run 24 hours a day, and always seem happy to get a call and schedule overnight work for us if we ever need it, to minimise any down-time.”

The haulier, founded in 1971, runs a fleet of curtainside trailers, mostly Montracon and Schmitz, on general palletised haulage work, but also has a number of double-deck trailers that it uses to trunk loads to and from The Pallet Network hub at Minworth in the West Midlands. Seven DAF rigids then undertake localised collections and deliveries for the company, which has been in The Pallet Network as a member for over ten years.
