The space-saving properties of a dynamic axle weighbridge manufactured and installed by Axtec, the axle weighing specialists from Runcorn, have provided a more convenient, accurate and time-saving vehicle weighing solution for Spotmix Ltd, a waste management and recycling specialist in Merseyside.

The drive-over dynamic axle weighbridge is the most accurate of its type in the world (to within 0.5 per cent) and is designed to automatically provide individual axle weights as well as the gross vehicle weight in just 40 seconds.

The system is activated remotely from the cab by Spotmix’s own drivers and unlike the obstacle created by the traditional surface-mounted weighbridge with approach ramps it had previously, the Axtec unit is fitted completely flush with the ground so the whole weighing area can still be used for working space when not in use.

Spotmix Director, Dave Tiplady commented, “We used to have a traditional plate weighbridge in the yard but this Axtec unit offers so many advantages, the biggest one being the space it saves as the old system restricted our vehicle movements considerably and was always getting hit by trucks causing damage to both the weighbridge and the vehicle.”

Derek Hack, Sales Manager at Axtec commented: “Traditional plate weighbridges provide accurate gross vehicle weights and have an important role to play, but the Axtec dynamic axle weighbridge can do the job with huge advantages, especially where space is tight or there are challenges with spilt material.”

The most common reason for traditional plate weighbridges to go out of calibration is spilt material beneath the plate, causing inaccurate records and loss of revenue.

Dave Tiplady concurs: “Cleaning beneath the old weighbridge was difficult and time-consuming, but keeping the Axtec axle weighbridge pit clean is simplicity itself.  The installation and service has been spot on, and we can also check axle weights where necessary to ensure the legality of that aspect, too.”

Axtec produces a range of dynamic, static, on-board and portable axle weighing solutions. There is more information available at www.axtec.co.uk, by calling 01928 581575 or emailing info@axtec.co.uk.
