New four-axle DAF CF FAQ tridem with demountable blower body provides tailored solution for sustainable wood fuel supplier

  • DAF CF FAQ 8x2 is new four-axle model in Euro 6 range with tridem configuration for heavy duty load capacity, better manoeuvrability and less tyre scrub
  • For improved efficiency and flexibility, sustainable wood fuel supplier, MWF, has ordered a DAF CF FAQ truck with 38m³ demountable wood chip blower body
  • New DAF CF Euro 6 FAQ tridem has a leading rear axle, a driven rear axle and a steered trailing axle and a GVW of 32 tonnes
  • Latest PACCAR engines for new DAF Euro 6 ranges offer lower running costs, extended service intervals, improved MPG and lower emissions

One of the first of the new, heavy duty, four-axle DAF CF FAQ models launched this summer is now in use by specialist wood chip and pellet supplier, MWF, for delivering large volumes of wood chippings to its commercial and domestic customers with wood burning boilers in rural and urban parts of Wales and the central and northern counties of England from its base in Telford.

MWF chose the four-axle DAF CF FAQ with a tridem configuration because it is specifically designed to carry heavy duty containers. Three steering axles also improve its manoeuvrability, which is extremely useful when MWF is delivering to schools, public buildings or homes, and also improves tyre longevity thanks to less tyre scrub.

The DAF CF FAQ ordered by MWF is powered by the latest six-cylinder, 12.9-litre PACCAR MX-13, 460hp Euro 6 engine. This engine is light, quiet and fuel efficient with low running costs, plus also has a new, enhanced interior to improve the daily work-life of the driver.

The new vehicle has been tailored to MWF’s needs with a demountable Transmanaut wood chip blower body. This relatively unusual delivery method can discharge its full 38m³ capacity, 12 tonne payload in about 45 minutes via a flexible hose which enables it to deliver to places inaccessible by a conventional tipper.

This is the first time MWF has chosen a demountable blower body, but as a hook lift tipper body can also be used in its place, it provides the flexibility of a choice of delivery options. it is also equipped with a drawbar to give the option of operating with a trailer at 44 tonnes GTW.

Commenting on the new DAF CF FAQ, Bob Osborne, MWF’s Logistics Manager said: “The response from our drivers has been very encouraging, especially for its ability to work in tight spaces with its three turning axles.”

“It is also our first vehicle with an automated gearbox and is really easy to drive with a very comfortable cab,” he continued.

Ewan Bent, the Commercial Director of MWF also commented: “We need to continually review our vehicle needs, and with business growth up 50 per cent on last year, we will need more new vehicles, so the great experience and support we have had with DAF means a very important partnership has been established which we look forward to developing.”

The DAF CF FAQ was ordered as a result of specialist advice given to Ewan by Colin Moore, Truck Sales Executive at Greenhous DAF.  He explained: “It was very important to understand the environment in which the truck had to operate. Once we had established the paramount need for manoeuvrability at delivery sites, such as tight spaces at school playgrounds and domestic properties, we suggested the CF FAQ. Then the design process is always a collaboration where the needs of the customer are turned into reality. This combination of the CF FAQ and the blower system was unique to us at Greenhous DAF and we are proud to have achieved such an excellent end result for MWF.”

Phil Moon, Marketing Manager, DAF Trucks UK added: “Greenhous DAF, has set a great example of the high standard of customer service the DAF dealer network provides.”
