Reliability, aftersales and Euro 6 emissions win £1.2m order for 14 new DAF trucks from independent builders merchant Huws Gray
- 14 new DAF Euro 6 trucks ordered by leading builders merchant Huws Gray
- DAF trucks chosen after good experience of reliability and parts availability
- First Euro 6 trucks on 80+ fleet at 44 depots in Wales and North West England
- HIAB load handling equipment specified to off-load goods where required
Having owned new and used DAF trucks since 2008, Huws Gray, one of the UK’s leading builders’ merchants, has invested in 14 new DAF trucks worth approximately £1.2 million for its network of 44 depots across Wales and North West England. These will be the first Euro 6 models on its fleet of over 80 vehicles and will be used for daily deliveries of materials to households and construction sites.
After researching the market for new trucks, Huws Gray chose DAF trucks again because of the excellent reliability, aftersales support and speedy parts availability it had experienced, plus the benefits of improved fuel consumption and lower running costs offered by the latest PACCAR MX-11 engines with Euro 6 compliant emissions.
The fourteen truck order includes one DAF FA LF 180 16 tonne tipper, eight DAF FA LF 220 18 tonne dropsides and five DAF FAN CF330 26 tonne dropsides. All vehicles with dropside bodies (by Commercial Body Specialists Ltd) are also fitted with HIAB cranes for convenient loading and unloading of materials wherever they’re required.
Mike Cholomondley, Transport Manager at Huws Gray said: “We’ve always found that DAF trucks suit our job better, plus we’ve had less problems with them and always been able to get hold of any parts quickly – even going to collect them from the factory in Leyland, if necessary. We’ve looked at other trucks, but some of them were a bit too technical for our type of work and too slow to supply parts.”
“The new vehicles will definitely reduce our carbon footprint and help us deliver goods even more efficiently and on time,” he continued.
The new vehicles have been fully liveried and will be based at Huws Gray depots including Wrexham, Porthmadog, Wallasey, Moreton, Aintree, Bolton, Flint, Wrightington and Derby.
Imperial Commercials, one of DAF’s longest established distributors, is supplying the new trucks from its branch in Wrexham, north Wales, and will be looking after the vehicles based at the local Huws Gray depot via a service and maintenance contract.
“This is another great example of DAF trucks being chosen for their efficiency and ability to be tailored to the needs of a specific sector,” said Phil Moon, Marketing Manager, DAF UK.
