Toshiba TransferJet™ Close Proximity Wireless Transfer Demos Include Concept ‘Wireless SSD’ and Android Tablets
Demonstrations showcase Toshiba technologies for close proximity wireless transfer in computers tablets, televisions and cameras
IFA, 31st August – 5th September 2012
Hall 21/101 - Dealer Zone
Düsseldorf, Germany, 3rd August 2012 – Visitors to the Toshiba Dealer Zone at IFA 2012 (Hall 21/101) will be the first to see new demonstrations designed to showcase Toshiba’s semiconductor technology for TransferJet™ wireless data transfer. On show for the first time at IFA will be a ‘proof of concept’ wireless SSD and two Android tablets incorporating Toshiba´s microSD and SD cards with integrated TransferJet capabilities.
Illustrating Toshiba’s ongoing commitment to TransferJet, the new demonstrations show how the company’s semiconductors simplify the design of products featuring TransferJet’s high-speed, close proximity wireless transfer capabilities. TransferJet technology features transmission speed of up to 560Mpbs over air when devices are in close proximity. Toshiba was the first to market with a single-chip TransferJet solution that integrates all of the host interface, modem, baseband and RF functions necessary for TransferJet communications.
Toshiba’s wireless SSD concept product will demonstrate how TransferJet can be used to provide a high-speed, ‘USB-style’ wireless link for bulk data transfer and streaming to/from a portable, battery-powered SSD drive and a PC. The tablet demonstration will show how microSD cards and SD cards with integrated TransferJet capabilities can be used for simple, wire-free “touch and get” transfer between any Android 3.1/4.0 or Linux-based systems including tablets, cameras and mobile phones.
All of the new demonstrations have been built around Toshiba’s TransferJet Consortium-qualified wireless IC TC35420. This chip incorporates all of the necessary signal processing and RF circuitry for a TransferJet-compliant wireless communications link.
About TransferJet
TransferJet™ is a close proximity wireless transfer technology standard promoted by the TransferJet Consortium whose membership consists of 53 companies (as of September 2011), including Toshiba. TransferJet provides high-speed data transfer with low-power consumption simply by selecting on the screen of a device the data file to be transferred through close proximity or by touching two devices together. It was designed to facilitate the rapid transfer of large files, such as pictures or HD videos, between devices by download or streaming and can take place between two portable devices or between a portable device and a stationary PC, peripheral, or TV incorporating TransferJet technology."
