With only weeks left until charitable trekkers from the bus, coach and rail industries join together to celebrate the memory of Peter Huntley by hiking to the top of Wales’ highest mountain, international development charity, Transaid, is reminding any last minute challengers to put their best foot forward and join in.

The July 6 event is being held in memory of Peter Huntley, the former Managing Director of Go North East and founder of specialist public transport consultants TAS Partnership.

Mr Huntley raised thousands of pounds in his lifetime for charities and had been training for a Transaid expedition to the North Pole, when he died in the Lake District in February last year.  He was a keen walker, cyclist and climber, and had hoped to raise £10,000 for Transaid with a trek from Russia to the Arctic Circle.

Spurred on by his love of adventure and passion for charity work, Mr Huntley’s family, friends and colleagues will join members of the transport industry to take part in the one-day challenge in his name, including Mr Huntley’s closest family.

The volunteers will soak up the beautiful Welsh scenery as they climb Snowdon, before toasting their achievement at a local pub.

Gary Forster, Chief Executive of Transaid, says: “Peter’s charity work has really inspired those in the transport industry to get involved in this fantastic event, and those already signed up are raring to go.  The walk up Snowdon may be challenging at times, but it will also be incredibly rewarding for those involved as they’ll be raising vital funds for a charity close to Peter’s heart.

“There’s only weeks left until the event and we would welcome more participants.  Peter had a great sense of adventure so this challenge will be a fitting way to celebrate his memory.”

To sign up to the walk visit http://expeditionwise.com, choose ‘challenges’, then ‘challenge dates and costs’, and select ‘The Big Walk to the Small Pub in Memory of Peter Huntley’ from the list.  All participants must pledge £450 to take part in the walk and a registration fee of £112 is to be paid on signing up.
