TRANSAID RALLIES INDUSTRY TO HELP CELEBRATE 15TH YEAR

International development charity, Transaid is calling on its supporters in the transport and logistics industries to help raise as much money as possible during its 15th anniversary year.
From African cycle rides to charity auctions, a whole host of activities are taking place throughout 2013 to help the charity raise more money than ever to help fund projects which improve and implement transport solutions in developing countries.
And the team is not alone in trying to raise these vital funds as networking and support group Women in Logistics UK (WIL) has chosen Transaid as its official charity, and will for the second year running donate all proceeds from its annual WIL ball and awards evening to be held on Friday 20 September 2013.
After the success of last year’s inaugural ball which saw £8,000 raised, WIL and Transaid are hoping even more members of the transport and logistics industries will come along to the event and help meet the charity’s ambitious anniversary target.
Clare Bottle, Vice-Chair of WIL, says: “Transaid is a fantastic organisation and I’ve been fortunate enough to see first-hand the crucial work the charity does in Africa. WIL is keen to support Transaid’s cause in any way we can and we hope our second annual ball will raise even more than our first.”
The ball and awards ceremony, which is being held at the St Johns Hotel in Solihull was launched last year to celebrate the achievements of inspirational women and forward thinking companies in the logistics industry, and this year’s WIL awards received more than 40 nominations.
Gary Forster, Chief Executive of Transaid, says: “We are delighted Women in Logistics has chosen to donate the proceeds from its annual ball to Transaid. This is not only a wonderful event which marks the fantastic achievements of those working in the logistics industry but it also helps Transaid continue our vital work in Africa.
“Women in Logistics and its members have been staunch supporters of Transaid with Clare taking part in a number of our fundraising events over the years. It’s fantastic that WIL can help make our 15th anniversary year so special, especially as WIL is celebrating its fifth anniversary too.”

Women in Logistics UK was established by Chair Ruth Waring and a group of friends in September 2008 to support the careers of women in the logistics field. It aims to increase the number of women in the sector, improve life for those women already working in logistics and address the gender imbalance issue in the industry.
