New emerging market debt offers income and capital appreciation potential

DENVER – September 2, 2011 – Continuing its efforts to bring institutional-quality investment management to all investors, Transamerica Asset Management Group announced today the launch of Transamerica Logan Circle Emerging Markets Debt (the “Fund”). The Fund will be sub-advised by Logan Circle Partners, L.P. (“Logan Circle”) and will be available to retail and institutional investors through class A, C, I and I2 shares.

“We believe emerging markets debt fills the needs of advisors and their clients for greater growth potential, an opportunity for income, and a non-correlated asset class,” said Dave Paulsen, Chief Sales Officer of Transamerica Capital, Inc. “This Fund offers investors an opportunity to capitalize on the economic momentum of emerging markets and access a broader opportunity set for total returns.”

While many emerging market funds invest primarily in U.S.-dollar denominated issues from governments in emerging markets, Transamerica Logan Circle Emerging Markets Debt has the ability to invest in a broader variety of assets. The Fund can invest in sovereign debt in local currency, as well as both U.S. dollar and local currency corporate debt. “Rather than focus solely on government-issued debt, the addition of corporate debt across the ratings spectrum provides greater growth potential,” said Paulsen, “as well as less correlation with other asset classes, helping improve diversification.”

The Fund will be managed by Scott J. Moses, CFA and A. Todd Howard, CFA, leaders of a deep, experienced team focused on independent credit research across the credit quality spectrum. With over $12 billion in assets and nearly $600 million in emerging markets debt (as of June 30, 2011), Logan Circle is a recognized industry leader in the emerging markets.

The Fund continues Transamerica Asset Management Group’s strategy to bring best-of-breed institutional managers to the retail investing public. The Logan Circle team has a strong track record and over a decade of experience managing emerging market assets using this investment process.

The launch of the Fund is timely given recent volatility in U.S. equity markets, the broad need of investors for income, and the search for non-correlated asset classes by advisors. In fact, many broker-dealers currently recommend that clients increase their allocation to emerging markets, in both debt and equity.

Transamerica Capital, Inc. will lead the sales and distribution efforts within the financial institution, wirehouse and independent financial planner channels. Mutual funds are subject to market risk, including the loss of principal. The risks of investing in foreign securities are magnified in emerging markets. These may include risks related to market and currency volatility, adverse social and political developments, and the relatively small size and lesser liquidity of these markets. Debt investing is subject to credit risk, inflation risk, and interest rate risk. Credit risk is the risk that the issuer of a bond won’t meet their payments. Inflation risk is the risk that inflation could outpace a bond’s interest income. Interest rate risk is the risk that fluctuations in interest rates will affect the price of a bond.
