Berlin, 16 December 2020  - Transparency International condemns the meritless false accusations made against it by groups in Nigeria and promoted by certain media outlets.

In Nigeria and around the world, Transparency International campaigns for a more just and fair society for all through the eradication of the scourge of corruption. Accusations that TI engages in blackmail, falsification of evidence and bribery are slanderous and defamatory. We condemn them absolutely.

Delia Ferreira Rubio, Chair of Transparency International, said: “This pedalling of false accusations against Transparency International and other civil society groups is nothing but a crude attempt to divert attention away from very real issues with corruption and human rights abuses in Nigeria. We will not stand for it and demand an immediate apology and retraction from those presenting and promoting these lies without a shred of evidence.”
