Trelleborg’s applied technologies operation facility in Retford, England, has recently won government funding from Innovate UK as part of its Knowledge Transfer Partnership program, starting January 2018 for 24 months. Innovate UK is an executive non-departmental public body that drives productivity and growth by supporting businesses to realize the potential of new technologies, developing ideas and making them a commercial success.

Philip Brindle, Technical Manager with Trelleborg’s applied technologies operation, states: “We are delighted to have won the UK Innovate funding, and we are excited to work closely with Loughborough University on cutting edge technology. This reflects our position within Trelleborg as a center of excellence for polyurethane. We are tasked with exploring new polymeric technologies and manufacturing techniques, and we will also focus on finding new renewable technologies that reduce the carbon footprint.

“As a world leader in engineered polymer solutions that seal, damp and protect critical applications in demanding environments, we are uniquely equipped to develop innovative, custom-designed solutions in selected segments. Programs like this help us enhance our solutions to meet ever more demanding customer requirements in diverse applications.”

The Knowledge Transfer Partnership is a UK-wide program that has been helping businesses for the past 40 years to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within the UK Knowledge Base. It achieves this by linking selected companies with an academic or research organization and a graduate student, enabling the business to bring in new skills and the latest academic thinking to deliver a specific, strategic innovation project through a knowledge-based partnership.
