Intuitive Surgical Reveals 24% Drop Expected in First Quarter Revenues and Rite Aid is Expected to see a 1.4% year-over-year Gain

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISRG) has announced that first quarter revenues will fall 24% to $465 million from $611 million in the first quarter of 2013 owing to the $26 million deferral related to a customer trade-out program for their recently purchased da Vinci Si Surgical Systems with the company’s recently announced da Vinci Xi Surgical System. Intuitive Surgical, Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets da Vinci surgical systems, and related instruments and accessories. Its da Vinci surgical system translates a surgeon’s natural hand movements, which are performed on instrument controls at a console, into corresponding micro-movements of instruments positioned inside the patient through small incisions or ports. The da Vinci surgical system comprise a surgeon’s console, a patient-side cart, a 3-D vision system, da Vinci skills simulator, and Firefly fluorescence imaging product that enable surgeons to perform various surgical procedures, including gynecologic, urologic, general surgery, cardiothoracic, and head and neck surgical procedures.

Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD) climbed higher a day ahead of the company’s scheduled earning report. The third-largest drugstore chain in the U.S. is expected to report revenue of $6.54 billion over the three months to February, a 1.4% year-over-year gain, according to analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters.

Rite Aid Corporation, through its subsidiaries, operates a chain of retail drugstores in the United States. The company sells prescription drugs and a range of other merchandise, including over-the-counter medications, health and beauty aids, personal care items, cosmetics, household items, food and beverages, greeting cards, seasonal merchandise, and other every day and convenience products. It also offers various photo processing services in its stores. The company offers its products to customers covered by third party payors, such as insurance companies, prescription benefit management companies, government agencies, private employers, and other managed care providers.
