SodaStream's U.S. Sales Suffer in First Quarter and Yahoo Buys Blink

Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO) has acquired Blink, a SnapChat rival with a "self-destructing" message app. Blink made the announcement on its blog. The company's staff said that Yahoo plans to shut down Blink's Google Android and Apple iOS mobile apps within a few weeks. Blink has an app that will self-destruct after a certain amount of time. The app allows users to send texts, sketches, record audio, make videos and take photos. Its main rival is Snapchat, which Facebook reportedly tried to acquire for $3 billion.


Yahoo! Inc. operates as a technology company worldwide. The company offers search products, including Yahoo Search that serves as a starting point to navigate the Internet and discover information; and Yahoo Answers, which enables users to seek, discover, and share knowledge and opinions across mobile phones, tablets, and desktop. It also provides communications products, such as Yahoo Mail that connects users to the people and things; Yahoo Messenger, an instant messaging service; and Yahoo Groups, which enables users to join groups based on shared interests and involvements.

SodaStream International Ltd. (NASDAQ: SODA) reported earnings for the three-month period ended March 31, posting a profit of $0.08 per diluted share, which was down from earnings per share of $0.57 during the same period a year ago. This came in better than the $0.01 profit analysts were expecting. Revenue came in at $118.2 million in the quarter. This was up from $117.6 million in the year-ago period and also beat Wall Street's expectations of revenue of $117.9 million.


SodaStream International Ltd. develops, manufactures, and markets beverage carbonation systems and related products. The company operates in four segments: The Americas; Western Europe; Asia-Pacific; and Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa. It offers soda makers, exchangeable carbon-dioxide cylinders, which enable consumers to easily transform ordinary tap water instantly into carbonated soft drinks and sparkling water; and consumables, such as carbon-dioxide refills, reusable carbonation bottles, and flavors to add to the carbonated water.
