TripAdvisor and Netflix Among many Tech Companies Tumbling

TripAdvisor Inc. (NASDAQ: TRIP) shares sold off but was one among many that had declines in the tech and biotech arena on Friday. The stock tumbled 6.1% to close at $85.69. Thursday was the second consecutive day of losses suffered by the online travel agency. The stock has dropped 10% in the last two trading days.

TripAdvisor, Inc. operates as an online travel company. Its travel research platform aggregates reviews and opinions about destinations; accommodations, including hotels, B&Bs, specialty lodging, and vacation rentals; and restaurants and activities, as well as enables consumers to book hotels, vacation rentals, airline tickets, vacation packages, destination services, and cruises under its TripAdvisor brand name. The company operates TripAdvisor-branded Websites comprising tripadvisor.com in the United States; and localized versions of the Website in 33 countries, including China under the daodao.com brand.

Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ: NFLX) shares dropped 4.90% on Friday and was among many other tech stocks to fall. The fall could have been a result of Amazon releasing Fire TV the previous day which could be competition for the company. Fire TV will sell for a price of $99; this is the exact same price as Apple TV and Roku 3, although Google Chromecast is considerably cheaper at $35. Fire TV streams video from a wide variety of sources: Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Instant Video, among many others. On the other hand, it does not include HBO GO, which could be an important omission for many users.

Netflix, Inc. provides Internet television network service that enables subscribers to stream TV shows and movies directly on TVs, computers, and mobile devices in the United States and internationally. The company operates in three segments: Domestic Streaming, International Streaming, and Domestic DVD. The Domestic Streaming segment offers access to content delivered over the Internet to various connected devices, such as PCs, Macs, game consoles, smart TVs, Blu-ray players, hone theatre systems, Internet video players, digital video recorders, and mobile devices.
