Zendesk Soars in its IPO Debut and Gentiva Health Services Rejects Bid from Kindred Healthcare

Zendesk, Inc. (NYSE: ZEN) soared more than 44% in its IPO offering. The cloud based customer service company with rivals like Oracle (ORCL) and Salesforce.com (CRM), described its software in a public filin as "beautifully simple" and cheaper than many of its rivals. Zendesk's stock debuted at 9 a share which garnered the company nearly $100 million, which it intends to put back into the business.


Zendesk, Inc., a software development company, provides software-as-a-service customer service platform for organizations. The company’s platform provides a single customer service interface to manage one-on-one customer interactions; enables track and predict common questions and provides a seamless path to answers; allows to gather customer data and engage with customers based on the insights the data provides; and offers tools to understand customers and track the efficiency and effectiveness of the customer service. It also provides live chat software as an integrated service with its customer service platform for chat-enabled agents.

Gentiva Health Services Inc. (NASDAQ: GTIV) rejected an offer by rival Kindred Healthcare who has made an unsolicited bid for the company.  Under the terms of the proposed deal, Kindred was willing to pay $514 million, or $1.6 billion inclusive of debt, for Gentiva Health Services. The deal would have been completed using a combination of $7 per share in cash and $7 per share in Kindred stock, and represented a roughly 64% premium to Gentiva's close yesterday. Gentiva said it no intentions of discussing an offer at this time.


Gentiva Health Services, Inc. provides home health, hospice, and community care services in the United States. The company's Home Health segment provides direct home nursing and therapy services, including specialty programs. This segment offers skilled nursing and therapy services and paraprofessional nursing services to adult and elder patients through licensed and Medicare-certified agencies. Its specialty programs include Gentiva Orthopedics, which offers individualized home orthopedic rehabilitation services to patients recovering from joint replacement or other orthopedic surgery; Gentiva Safe Strides that provides therapies for patients with balance issues; and Gentiva Cardiopulmonary, which helps patients and their physicians manage heart and lung health in a home-based environment.
