Breakthrough in Czech Republic for improved bioenergy efficiency

Opcon Bioenergy, a subsidiary of Opcon, the energy and environmental technology Group, today signed a partnership agreement within bioenergy covering the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Meanwhile Opcon has also received its first order on waste heat recovery equipment to the Czech Republic. The order covers two flue gas condensation plants including treatment to two district heating plants in Trebic, Czech Republic. The equipment will improve energy efficiency by up to 30% through utilisation of waste heat. Emissions of particles will also be cut by around 75%.

An agreement has been signed with TTS EKO S.R.O, a leading company in the biomass market in the Czech Republic and Slovakia with its own plants and extensive sales of technology in this sector. The company, previously a customer of Saxlund, has around 130 employees and markets boilers, multicyclones, control systems, etc. TTS currently has over 40 reference projects at bioenergy plants in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The two district heating plants in Trebic are owned and operated by TTS.

Delivery is set to 2010. The order is worth around SEK 7.5 million.

“TTS is a partner who knows the market and is now also investing in technology at its own plants. We also gain references that will be in operation already this year. We are seeing how investment in plants powered by biomass is increasing in the Czech Republic, where fossil fuels and nuclear power have completely dominated the energy sector to date,” says Claes Scheibe, Managing Director, Opcon Bioenergy AB.

“This is yet another step forward in our strategy of international expansion where we are exporting leading Swedish technology within energy and the environment. The Czech Republic is the eleventh country outside Sweden that we are now entering with this type of equipment that utilises waste heat and improves the efficiency of heat production based on biomass,” says Per Hedebäck, Executive Vice President, Renewable Energy business area, Opcon AB.

Opcon Bioenergy is a part of Opcon’s expanding Renewable Energy business area and its Waste to Value initiative with a special focus on Waste Heat Recovery and bioenergy.  Under its SRE brand, Opcon delivers treatments systems and improved energy efficiency to district heating plants powered by biomass, sawmills, pellets producers and commercial greenhouses. Opcon also supplies treatment equipment to industrial companies and drying systems for biomass.

Within the bioenergy sector, Opcon Bioenergy offers everything from design of entire CHP-plants to handling systems under the Saxlund brand.  The Opcon Group also offers Opcon Powerbox for production of green electricity from hot water or saturated steam.
