Svensk Rökgasenergi (SRE), a subsidiary of Opcon AB, the energy and environmental technology Group, today signed an agreement concerning delivery of its new energy-efficient low-temperature drier for biomass – System Renergi LTD, to Corbat SA, a Swiss sawmill. SRE’s low-temperature drier will be used to produce pellets. Delivery will take place in August.

“The market for drying bioenergy and producing pellets is growing strongly in Europe as a result of European ambitions to increase the amount of renewable energy. This is a breakthrough order in Switzerland and it will be an important reference in a region where we have not previously been active. In addition to Switzerland this area includes parts of Germany, France and Italy. These markets have significantly higher energy prices than Sweden and often extensive subsidies for renewable energy. Several of our Group’s products are of interest in this context,” says Rolf Hasselström, President and CEO of Opcon AB.

“Our system enables increased competitiveness for sawmills and pellets producers while the environmental gain is obvious. Using condensers and low-temperature driers we can avoid using expensive primary energy for drying and instead use surplus heat at low temperatures. It’s possible to halve the fuel requirements without reducing production. Alternatively, you can double drying capacity with the same amount of fuel. The investment pays for itself within one year while emissions to the environment are reduced considerably,” says Lennart Granstrand, Svensk Rökgasenergi (SRE).

System Renergi is based on recycling heat through flue gas condensation and involves major reductions in emissions as well as significant energy savings.
